Bladder effect

Has anybody heard of the term "bladder effect" in relation to pressure in a close drillstring through a closed annular preventer?

Apparently, the mud in the riser (above the closed annular) is supposed to exert pressure on the annular that in turn transmits pressure into the drillpipe.
