Well testing: separator vs multiphase flow meter

Hi,

Need sharing and experiences of using multhiphase flow meter on offshore drilling operation compare to conventional well test separator. 
Many advantages of testing well without separator: smaller foot print, rig up time, safety, etc.
However, testing well just with multiphase flow meter still not a common practise. Any limitations and potential problems with this testing?
Very appreciated for any comments.
