Rental Bits Model

Guys,
I am working on a new project where we will be using Drilling bits on rental basis.
I would appreciate if anyone has worked on such a project and what are your financial models regarding renting bits, since renting bits can be a bit tricky as in some cases a wrong mathematical model would mean paying more cost in rent rather than buying it on direct sales, also are looking into the idea of performance runs in terms as a financial model as well.
