Sponge Coring
23 June 2010 Hi folks,At a recent DWOP, the planned sponge-coring programme was challenged.
The objective is to recover core that will allow determination of the water saturations, for the calculation of reserves.
The sponge retains any hydrocarbons that are released from the core as it is recovered to surface and transported.
However, the planned well inclination is 60 degrees. This will limit the core barrel length to 30-40 ft, unless we use alternative systems (e.g Liquid Trapper).
We would like to know members' experience, with particular regard to :
1. Maximum angle that you have successfully done sponge-coring ?
2. The corresponding core barrel lengths
3. Experience with alternative coring techniques that will achieve the same data acquisition requirements.
Thanks
Dave Taylor
