Tandem Section Mill (second one held in reserve)
13 April 2015 Hi folksHere's one that I'd like to throw out into the left field.
The challenge: Milling long sections of casing (7" liner, 9-5/8" casing, 13-3/8" casing) as part of slot recovery prior to sidetrack.
The observed problem; Short mill life, resulting in frequent round-trips to replace
The potential solution: Just as we have seen on-demand reamers, what about on-demand string mills.
Would it be possible/sensible/practical to run two (or even three), with only one activated at a time until ROP suggests that it is time to 'retire' that one and 'activate' another.
I'm sure that this has come up before (in someone's mind).
What solutions are out there, actually ready to use or under-development.
Kind regards
Dave
