Deepwater Metocean difficulties

03 December 2017 All,

Seeking to tap into forum members deepwater drilling knowledge and related experiences in regards to metocean specific related drilling problems and effects  (stating key factor, area, water depth) and  'lost time' that resulted.

Example: A deepwater well drilled a few years ago off West Africa had no current modelling and no data for the region prior to rig arrival. To cut a long story short shallow high currents were experienced (2-4knots) that persisted to add an estimated 45-60days on to the wells AFE due to the non identified hazard/risks presented.

The intent of this discussion therefore is to attempt to gather a more global deepwater metocean drilling perspective for an article being written. Metocean Areas of key interest being:

Typhoon cyclone areas?
Solitons experienced (where, duration? what was extent of loss time)
Poor seabed visibility (reason for this, outcome)
High Currents (what depths, were these associated with tidal effects etc)
Winds/waves
Combined effect.

All discussion and relevant comments appreciated

regards,

P.
