Combination Casing string in Deep water Well design

I am looking at a well design and was wondering if combination casing strings are common on these wells. I assume they should be. I know I have ran them onshore.

The question is is there a rule of thumb to determine what could be the combination string size limits? like cross-over limits, assuming that both of these casing passes casing stress simulations.

Can we tie up 20'' into 14'' or18-5/8''? Any experience or pointers on this are appreciated.
