Whipstock recovery / milling
05 May 2021Does anyone here have any experience of whipstock recovery and/or milling? I know the general advice is “avoid it if you can”, but assuming it cannot be avoided, has anyone got actual experience of doing either? The whipstock in question is a 13-3/8" whipstock with a retrievable “whipback” anchor, and is a shallow angle, quick cut (SAQC) type.
What is the success rate for recovery for this type of whipstock? If it fails, how does it typically go wrong?
And if initial recovery fails, has anyone successfully milled one? What are the forum's opinions on the best approach?
Many thanks,
James
