"Green Hat Policy" - making it work

At the various Inductions we facilitate, we are frequently
encountering the following challenge to the conventional thinking on
green hard harts.



It would seem that the current approach to green hard-hats was
developed for steady-state operations where there is a small
turnover of personnel and it is important to identify anyone who
is ”œnew”. However, several companies are now re-activating
mothballed platform drilling sets and/or bringing in experienced rig
crews to their land operations where the drillcrews will be working
on an existing facility. This co-incides with a massive upturn in
the industry where there are a large number of people who are brand
new to our industrial workplace.



Conventional understanding is that all ”œnewstarts” will be required
to wear green-hats (to identify them as unfamiliar with the site).
The concern that comes up is that this means EVERYONE will be
wearing green hats and it will be difficult to clearly identify
those for whom the policy was originally designed, those who are the
least familiar with their surroundings i.e. the ”œnew to industry”
starts.



Please can members advise what solutions (if any) their company has
devised to help overcome this.
