Gas migration in WBM?

02 January 2011 What experiences have been learned, and/or observed in regards to pressure build up to balance, then further shut in pressures trends and migration rates observed, namely in relation to gas kicks in water based muds?

Particularly from shallow sedimentary formation sequences that are lilkely to be both porous and permeable.

What I am seeking is further data to suport how/why rates of several thousand feet per hour can result.

Finally any technical references to such subject matters also greatly appreciated.
