Testing Storm Chokes

14 February 2011 All,

To comply with our standards we have been asked to look at the option of testing our storm chokes while they are installed in our wells. At the moment we recover them at each plant shut down, perform any maintenance required and visually inspect them and we are also looking at adding a bench pressure test going forward but ideally we would like to test when they are installed to give confirmation that they will activate in a well control situation. The storm chokes are installed in very low rate gas wells (1-5 mmscfd) with low WHP (500-1000 psi) so we are concerned that we will damage the reservoir if we try and trip the storm choke by shutting in the choke and then opening it through the vent system. Any help or guidance would be very much appreciated.

Regards, Doug
