Taking SCRs

23 February 2011 Hi folks,

Recently, the subject of taking SCRs cropped up. It was noted that one Oil Co was taking SCRs on a regular basis, and using the cement pump to do it, on a land-rig. Normally pressured, targeting gas reservoir.

It would be good to get an idea of what current industry practice and trends are.

For example, some semisubs use an open kill or choke line to monitor annulus pressure and, when bringing the pumps up to speed in a kill operation (using the other line), keep this monitored pressure constant. This allows compensation for choke-line pressure loss by observing actual figures rather than an SCR taken some while back.

Could we not do something similar on a land-well ?

Comments (including opinions) welcomed, though a smattering of facts (Company policies) always goes down well.

Thanks
