Alternate Barrier elements certification acceptance by Industry

Has the industry had approved of alternative sealing material such as Bismuth, Resin as an alternative to the traditional cement as barrier although the latter is subject to more risks in successfully deploying and tested as a Barrier. 

What are the global operators experience to date in using various sealing barrier elements as a barrier during P&A campaign.? Appreciate any views/opinions and case histories to share.
