ArticuLock: what else can it be used for?

01 September 2025

Folks

I’ve generally considered myself a bit of a blue-sky thinker, but what makes me prouder than ever is when a loyal customer takes their own approach to blue-sky thinking with our technologies.

ArticuLock is one of Expro’s truly unique pieces of technology that was originally conceived to open up the operating windows for the deployment of casings and subsea architecture through open water when working riserless. It has worked perfectly. It is the subject of SPE papers which has enabled the use of dual derrick drilling units in the world’s harshest environments.

Now it has got a new application.

One of our customers for the ArticuLock technology looked upon one of their challenges with a fresh set of eyes, and thought “we could use that to make our operation even more efficient”. I love that. The customer used ArticuLock to run their casing and land it off in the subsea template, then whilst performing the cement job, they moved the rig such that the drilling side of the dual derrick rig could go and start the next top hole drilling.

This saved time and made the top hole operation more efficient.

Work smarter not harder

  • What other uses do you think we could apply it to, with and without any modifications?

Thanks

Dave
