Calcium Carbonate

29 April 2012 Ladies and Gentlemen,
I took a sample of LCM (Calcium Carbonate) today from a plugged drilling motor in the work-shop. The samples evident in the motor were very granular and not what I expected.
I dried a sample and added Hydrochloric Acid -It fizzled like a Seltzer and when the solution cleared there were some granular particles in the bottom of the glass.
My questions are;
Should Calcium Carbonate be hard and granular?
What changes can occur to it downhole?
Is Calcium Carbonate - Calcium Carbonate; that is to say is anything else chemically added to the material for oilfield use.

Sorry to be a 5th grader on this but Chemistry was never my strong point.
