Scribing in the hole

Gents,

Back in the day, I called it the Stokenbury method and spent time in
the derrick marking the top tool joint for the DD below as we
scribed the tool-face in the hole.

It is still a used technique, but there seems to be as many methods
for doing it as there are DDs that do it.

Can we try, as a community, to assemble a kind of "Best Practices"
for this technique.
Comments and experiences welcome.

I am quite happy to assemble, write and put the combined document on
Spread.
