Dealing with "Gumbo attacks"

Good people of the community,
Its top hole time and drilling through Claystones that are not friendly.
Lots of rig time wasted in clearing flowlines, and tight hole through influxes of the dreaded "Gumbo".
We have tried high flow/low flow and increasing mud weight.
Does anyone have any hints/tips or tricks to limit the severity of this horrible formation effect?
