Using existing 4-1/2" completion to set cement plug inside 7" liner
19 March 2026Dear members
I'd like to tap into any of your experience with a pump-and-pull operation; to set a P&A cement plug, using the existing completion whilst recovering it to surface.
Normally we set balanced cement plugs by running ‘fresh’ tubing (or suitable drillpipe) from surface or pump and pull with coiled-tubing.
In our case, we are investigating the feasibility of a pump-and-pull as we recover 4½” tubing from inside a 7” liner.
- Have you done this?
- What precautions did you take?
- How did it turn out?
- Any key lessons learnt?
- Any other comments?
Thanks and kind regards
Claudio
