Drill string corrosion
27 August 2009 We are experiencing high rates of corrosion (external pitting) on our 5" S135 drill sting. We have done all the usual mud treatments (high pH, oxygen scavangers etc). One therory is the corroion may be occuring when the pipe is racked back. We now clean off the mud with HP water as it is POOH because it has a thick coating of heavy mud.We also now want to find some way of applying filming amine corrosion inhibitor to protect the pipe when racked back or layed down.
Any ideas or current practices by other operators are sought.
