Float Sub removal

Gents,
There is a modification afoot to bore the top sub of the drilling motors to accept a float sub. However as this connection is not recommended to be broken in the field, the old way of removing the float sub with a short piece of scaffolding tube from the down hole end is not an option.
Does anyone have any ideas for removing the float subs from the top?
Note; I am aware of the Baker removle tool, but the slide hammer device is not preferred for safety reasons (potential for nipping fingers).

In my experience the valves are not difficult to remove IF they are removed when the sub is fresh out of the hole, and the mud is still warm . Trying after the sub has been stood back for a few days in hot weather and the solids have all dried out is another matter.
Anyone have any tricks to get past this one??
