Large cutter PDC bit through deepwater sedimentary interbeds.

Typically 5 or even 4 bladed large cutter PDC's work great in claystones that dominate sedimentary environments.

In interbeds however too often I experience the big cutter i.e. 19mm-25mm, cutter bits, struggle. Note: I have experienced this globally.

What has/is being used to de-power the bits when a sand/silt/or limestones stringer or interbed is encountered to assure sequences are drilled as effectively and efficiently without compromising wellbore quality.

Best bits? 6 bladed, 16mm or a mix of cutters, oval cutter etc?

Comments, current experiences in deepwater environments appreciated.

Regards,
Peter.
