Deepwater spud motor vs rotary assembly?
12 January 2014Design basis;
Deepwater environment, no hard ground, major glaciation, boulder beds.
Expected 700m sedimentary sequence package of sands/silts/ooze/clays with occasional thin intermittent stringers.
1500m water depth, harsh environment, e.g. up to 6-8m heave, however low current profile effects from 400m to 1500m seabed water depths anticipated.
The question for forum to share K&E on, supported through case studies, engineering and/ facts/figure basis is:
Why would a motor vs. a rotary assembly be the most optimal to drill the best useable vertical wellbore?
Note: I have already been down this road too often before on various projects, However as I am in early planning stage I have time to seek other drilling/engineering support, and comment, before I will be challenging the current project drilling services provider to what I know they will be proposing !!!! :)
