Membership poll: Rig Ready Tubulars (strap, drift, install centraliser before sending to the rig)
13 May 2026Dear all
(Asking for a friend …)
I would like to re-open this topic again. It was covered in another post, but needs highlighting.

In this age of digitalisation and AI (incl, Agentic AI), it seems bizarre that we still get a tape measure out and clamber over casing and tubing at the wellsite; in order to measure its length.
We then compound this by running drifts through it and spending time (on critical path) installing centralisers.
I personally know of at least two serous injuries tat occurred clambering at height on a crowded pipe-deck.
There is a Rig-Ready option; all done in the base/pipe-yard under controlled conditions.
25 years ago, when I was a consultant Technical Limit Coordinator for BP Magnus D&C team, we adopted this approach; one of the last installations in that region to do so!
I know that many teams are doing this now, in 2026.
So, consider this a poll of our 3078 members.
- Who is currently using the Ready-to-Run ("Rig Ready") approach in their operations. Casing and tubing.
- On what basis are you doing so?
- What has been the outcome?
If you are not doing so:
- Why not?
- What's stopping you?
- What would it take for you to adopt a Ready-to-Run approach.
Please respond honestly and feel free to forward this to colleagues using the share option which - as a member - you will find at the top of this post.
If in doubt contact me directly.
Thanks
Dave
